Update on the New Geek Quiz - Suggestions Still Needed

April 5th 2007 00:30
I hadn't realised how long it was since I last posted on this blog. Curse real life for getting in the way of my online one! Some of you may remember that, an eon ago, I posted asking for suggestions for a new geek quiz. This quiz would hopefully be more representative of the views of actual geeks, particularly those that frequent Orble.

After going through the comments, I've come up with a rough outline for some questions. They are not all inclusive, and can certainly be changed. More questions are needed also to fill in the gaps that I have left. For the moment, it is done in the format of one answer per question.

There needs to be more questions concerning Technology, Comics and Music, as well as something Academic or Trivia related. Comics in particular is an area I don't know much about, so suggestions for that section would be greatly appreciated - I'm afraid I need Marvel vs DC explained to me!

Nina,

I'm exhausted.

I could actually answer some of those questions.

But how about an education feature for would be geeks, like me.

I enquired at the University, met with some titters, other staff took me very seriously and I did a slow tour and 'have you tried'? journey of time wasting, before deciding there was no such course.

How about introduction for beginners, like 1.have you heard of computers, 2. do you have a computer, 3. what other digital equipment do you have in your house, 4. do you know how to turn on a computer.....no, not that sort of turn on, 5. do you always rely on others for computer needs 5. have you heard of mspaintart.

and, what is a program, hardware? software? don't care? Bill gates, no does not relate to garden gates, bits, bytes, mega, giga, ram, rom, disc, floppy, CD, burn, MP3, i-tunes, i-pod, buses?

You'll probably find most can tell you what a TV program is, how a disc is in the back somewhere, floppy - yes bunnies' ears, burn, don't go near the fire, buses, of course, don't use them much prefer the car or the train.

I'll be looking forward to my first lesson, along with the computer illiterates of barely literate, and of course, we all know what literacy is , it's about Orble and a team of writers.

I do hope you find this helpful. Your up and coming geek, katyzzz

katyzzz: I had already intended to do some posts explaining Geek terminology, so maybe I should expand that to other technological areas as well. 'Geeks for Beginners' or 'Geeks 101' perhaps?

yoda:Having your own vodcast is very geeky, and pretty damn cool as well. I look forward to hearing more.

Oh, and ideal ringtone might want to include:

Crazy Frog - minus points for that one!

And I'm not sure where you'd put it , but there should be an AYBABTU reference in there somewhere.

Very true about the crazy frog! I was going to put in AYBABTU, but I couldn't work out how to phrase the question. I'll have to keep pondering that and come up with something.

That's great! The question is, is it solely gamer points, or does it encompass internet and general geek points as well?

I was leaving that up to you - my brain hurts!

Maybe gamer and general geek? In fact, you're right, probably all three!
