Ok, I'm going to try little experiment here...
I'm opening up thegeekspeak to you guys. I want to know what your thoughts are on the three consols in the next-gen war (if that doesn't sound like a great title for a comic I don't know what does).
Which console are you going to buy? Which one would you buy? Will you buy two? Will you buy none? Why will you buy none....waitaminute...
Regardless, you get the idea. Post your thoughts below, and in a months time or so I shall collate all of the responses and decalre a winner.
(Of course if no-one replies, I may just forget I ever posted this as to not bruise my fragile male ego)

This console launch from Nintendo is different than the others, because something new and innovative is coming out. I hope the Wii takes back a large chunk of the market share, maybe then those casual gamers with their XBoxes and Playstations will see some real gaming!

The X-Box 360 seems like an updated version of the X-Box with roughly the same games.
Though, during this wait for the ps3 I may snap up the Wii depending on how financial I am and whether the ps3 is ridiculously priced or is plain insanity in a price tag.

The PS3 was going to be a no-brainer... Then along came the stupid blu-ray drive.
Shortages of the new drive caused massive delays. I ain't waiting till March 2007 for a PS2, I'll be in line for a Wii.
Plus the Wii is different, and different is nearly always good.
Plus the PS3 remote does not have vibration, the Wii-remote has vibration and a small SFX speaker! Bring it on!
I'll also save myself $600 - amazing!

the PS3 is way over priced i thought the PSP was pricey but i bought it anyway and i am not buying any thing with the PS name until there handhelds cost less than $150 and the consoles $300.
As far as Nintendo I grew out of the N64 6 years ago

Firstly, you point out that the Wii isn't innovative as all it does is cut the control in two..I think you missed the point there son. You MOVE the remote to MOVE that character on the screen. That is something different, something that hasn't been done before, therefore innovative.

I bought the 360 because a) It's less expensive than the PS3 will be, b) Its performance will be very comparable to PS3, c) Online play is proven and unsurpassed.
As for the Wii? I may buy one. I'll wait and see how well its received upon its release and go from there.
PS3 is somewhere between a maybe and a probably not for me. The online play and the success or failure of BluRay will decide that one for me.

And you know this how? .. How do you know there isn't something Microsoft is developing right now ? You criticize me for estimating how long it will take for Microsoft to bring out a new console, yet you do the same yourself without any reliable source of information.. Sorry to say, but you're the one who comes off 'stupid' here.
Microsoft already has a head start with the release of the next console, since Sony and Nintendo are still developing and releasing their next gen consoles now.
Even if it is five years before Microsoft develops a new console , the 360 will stay alive and competitive until the next console is released.

the wiimote is a stupid way to play a shooting game, and uses a control as a gun is not new to the wii. the ps1, not that i like playstation, used a control gun, as has the ps2 and xbox. all the games that have used it have been fun at first, but the novelty of having to aim at the screen to shoot that place gets old very quickly.

If you have seen some of the game demos you will notice it is being used like a mouse, to not only point and shoot but also to move the camer around since it is an fps game.

when they gave the new zelda a new look the took away the original graphics that made the game great. i thought zelda on n64 was the best single player game on any console, up until the xbox was released. (ps2 never had any good games) (neither does ps3)
the graphics are not the only downfall...
when they gave link the ability to turn into a wolf, i decided that the game was stupid and it was just following the kid crap that is going to be the wii.

Now coming from a supervisor of a video game section at a major toy/video game store i must say i am disgusted with microsoft's attempt at a game system, they may have the graphics but they dont have the games to back the system up, they dont even have a game that can harness the full potential of the 360. Their system is having enough problems as well right now, loading problems, freezing problems, ruining discs, this always happens when microsoft does something that they rush out to the market, they dont go through all of the possible problems that they could have. The Wii will be an amazing piece of gaming technology with the new controller and the new way of playing games, PS3 will have it's moments but it will be a close one to see who will finish first. As for games i do believe PS3 and the Wii will have the wider arsenal of games esp. with Wii's ability to download the older version games. Also if you look at the history of the systems you will see that Nintendo has pretty much come out with all the new ideas and then the other systems will just copy it, lets take for instance the 4-button pad on the controllers, the SNES came out with it and then the PS controller took it as well, going with the analog stick as well, so i do think it may be safe to say that between the PS3 and the Wii the 360 will be totally taken out, it cant handle the games, its graphics is all it has, too many problems with it, and microsoft's product blows why the hell would you buy it?? altogether PS3 will have good graphics but the price suxs, the Wii will have the new controller and a little new graphics, but the price will be lower and more affordable. i will be buying the Wii because i own every Nintendo system and i do say that they come out with the most interesting ideas other than the other systems. Also if you look at the track record of problems happening with the systems Microsoft ALWAYS HAS PROBLEMS WITH THEIR CRAP, you never want to buy it because they never have the bugs fixed and when they do its outdated, the PS consoles are better but not as good as Nintendo's track record, Sony does make a very good product but it usually takes about 6 months to work out the problems with the system, the Nintendo systems usually never have any problems or very minimal ones. As i said i will be buying the Wii because i do enjoy the games more and the creativity is amazing with the creators.

these games are way better than anything the wii has to offer.
and the ps3's only games are world war 2 shooters. these games are old and boring.

furthermore, while the wii does have an interesting design, it is not a videogame console. it is more of an early attempt at virtual reality, and the controller is stupid.

i thought some people would like to see whats going on at other forums, and as a matter of fact i own a XBOX 360 despite no real changes from the original, i still like it, i will though get the wii when it comes out so there im no stingy guy with his hand in his pocket.
however:
wii has some good games like zelda, which ive played every1 to date, and i wwould rather play than any halo that comes out ever. ssbb, lets not forget, very addictive game, and metroid,another game ive played lot of. for first shooters, i have red steel, and TONS of 360 titles, so there, with both console i could get the best of everything except for ww2 shooters, but il still have call of duty or medal of honour, and i can get some of the N64 titles that i couldnt play for some time.
the controller is not hat bad, i no people that used it, people from ign are pretty happy with it, and so are gamespot. virtual reality seems cooler than high def, but thats me. so if you toss and turn in your sleep thinking i will never get the console i want, than dont worry, cause if the wiimote and the wii suck, than i will return it, and once again all will be well. the other consoles are bigger and more expensive, i no, costly= better, but ill have my "expensive" time with the 360, and the "fun" time with my wii.

upon further investigation, gta is now an exclusive game of the xbox 360. thats a big blow for ps3, as the gta series really was the only good set of games on the playstation

It was exclusve to the ps3 for a set time period after which it could go on other platforms, but microsoft countered sony's deal with Rockstar so that gta4 would release on all platforms at the same day.
Now whats hapening is that there will be 'exclusive xbox 360 content' for the game.
There may well be exclusive ps3 content too, so no real difference.

I personally am still deciding between the Wii and the 360. I will not mention the ps3 because, well i have a biased hatred of sony - they got carried away with its design.
I AM an xbox fan (possibly fanboy). But you know? The Wii has still got my attention. I'm sitting with a $300 voucher and wondering whether to spend it on a Wii or Xbox360.

I can't decide because, I'm mainly a single person player. Zelda looks like fun, but the rest don't interest me too much. I'm hoping for some good Nintendo storyline games. The arguement about Wii is marketed a larger audience doesn't work for me - I'm already a gamer, and I play alone.
I agree with the poster above, I don't want to be waving my highly damaged wrists already at 3am in the morning, but I do have a lust for something different - like the wii. I will love to sit back and swing my arms wildly to test my skill against some creepy monsters. I congratulate nintendo on having the courage to be innovative. They do seem to be like Apple eh?
One gripe I have with the wii is the simplicity of the system. People keep on mentioning graphics, but people forget processing. In squad based games, AI requires decent processing power which the Wii lacks. Not too much of an issue if I get some friends
Xbox360 will satisfy my other need of hardcore gaming. But again, it won't satisfy the relaxed fun side of things - which the Wii can.
Also I'm a programmer, and would like to play around with that MS XNA thing - I wonder if i can use that triple core processing power for some calculations
Hopefully I'll have enough money for both soon enough. I Can't decide

in my opinion I think that that 360 will probably come in first, Many cool games Halo,elder scrolls, Gears of war, Css, Hl2 Ect.
The only major problem with the ps3 is pricing and with some Blue ray players going for 1000$ Its not that bad, They also coppied motion sensing controllers from nintendo which sets it apart from the 360 and adds different a "gameplay" mechanic that everone seems to love the wii for.
The wii is a neat machine but to me it rubs off as a bit gimmicky (remember the Power glove or the virtual boy) The virtual console thing was a good idea but with the Large number of Roms and cracks for these games I think it will be overlooked. The first party games look pretty good (zelda,SSB,Metriod) but other then that i really don't see many games that look worth palying.
Red steel and Farcry (Very anticipated) were both flops. With a lack off "raw power" the wii just seems like a gamecube with a motion sensing ability and with a majority of games with graphics as a main point we might not see so many ports of great titles ( Hl2 or Resident evil). The wiimote seems to be the Focal point of the whole system and even that can be debated as a bad idea, bassically wiimote does not equal gameplay. In fact most games seemed perfect on game pads. Okay thats all i have to say about that.

Most of us hard core gamers have a PC that is better than an X-Box 360 or a PS3
Honestly, none of those platforms are going to compete with my gamer PC. So why would I even consider buying one?
So it boils down to something else for actual Gamers, innovation... and Wii wins hands down on that score. It is something different and funny and something a gamer can quickly introduce others ( even grandma ) to gaming in a fun and inovative way.
For the non-gamers, your average families Wii is more social, almost like Pictictionary, or other games where groups of people can laugh and play along.
Wii wins again... hands down.
Then you get to what a family is willing to pay for an entertainment system, and how much use the ENTIRE FAMILY ( not just the gamer geek kid ) gets out of it.
I think Wii went in exactly the right direction.
Cheaper, more innovative, less emphasis on graphics ( but enough to do the job )

ut i think the 360 is an overall
better choice.
Even thought I'l be missing out
on all of the good Mario games
I like (Super Smash Bros. Brawl,
Mario Party 8) I think in the long run
those games will get boring. I mean,
figh after fight can't be too exciting
after a while, right?
Plus, the 360 can be used as
a DVD player so my family can use
it. Plus, you can show pictures and
play music. I know the Wii is really
innovative and has all the mario
games that are so popular but
I think in the long run, my choice
to get the 360 will prove itself right.
Sorry to you Nintendo fans, but

I have been gaming since 1978 and see many consoles come and go. One thing that has always been true: the release games are NOTHING compared to what is to come in about a year. BTW, there are some amazing games already sitting around waiting to be played (by adults) right now for PS3; Fall of Man, Vitua Fighter 5 etc etc. We will be looking forward to other (adult) games such as Gran Turismo's next installment and Grand Theft Auto 4. Or maybe even Sonic the Hedgehog, Marvel Alliance, or the entire Mortal Kombat line. There will be hundreds of great games for PS3, just like there was for PS2 after a while for the devs to get a handle on the architecture. Blu Ray is your future; accept it. I seem to remember the Playstation 2 going on to become the best selling console of all time by a massive margine, despite initial problems with the first batch of dvd drives. The Wii has an innovative controler which you move around? Ever hear of the Sixaxis? Same bloody thing. Rumble? Who cares; I hated that cheap jumk. Seems like a way of saying, "The game isn't exicting enough to convince you with the gameplay or graphics or story alone so here is a cheap gimmick".
The PS3 has been under development for the last year or so, while the Xbox360 has been taking the quick road and selling medium games. There has never before been a console of such power and potential. Xbox is made by microsoft; they have enough money to float it if it starts to sink. Sony is selling enough Ts and stereos to support the PS3 into adulthood. Nintendo has....game consoles....hope they have superior games and graphics.....oooops. The cell processor will ensure that the games you will be getting for the life of the system will be nothing short of astonishing. This is not just an empty promise as some will say, it's simply fact based on trends over the last 30 years or so. Peace.

Now, a fanboy is a person who justifies failings of the company they love, you justify the price as 'oh well everyone who owned a ps2 now is working so can obviously afford the ps3', your 'Blu Ray is your future' is a nice one too, another assumption (even if it comes true doesn't mean you are any less of a fanboy).
Your comment that the ps3 has been under development frot he 'last year or so' is so vague it's laughable, no it hasn't, the console hasn't and a whole heap of games on the ps3 have been in development for about two years, might I remind you the xbox 360 has severel released and yet to be released games that have been in development for upwards of two years?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since the nes every generation was dominated by the technically inferior console including the sega genesis (I knowyou'll pull that one on me) which had sizeable market lead over the snes until the sega CD was released, it plummeted. I don't know, I think consumers don't differentiate between a 'optical drive' or a 'cell processor' when making purchases.
Also, might I remind you (and yes i'm feeding the troll here), the ps3 sales have been lagging in North America despite 'sell out' first order shipments wherein the Wii is stil up to this day sells out within a matter of days. You can actually buy a ps3 for LESS off of ebay than what you would be paying up in europe, as for the wii, heh, got five hundred bucks on you?

There is no need to try an infect one another with beliefs and opinions.
I am happy to say I love Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PS3 (come Friday).
I own the Wii and have a PS3 on pre-order. But playing the 360 with a mate has been amazing.
Let's face it, you can't compare the current generation consoles. Wii is world's away from PS3 and 360 and has some sensational intuitive features. PS3 is in its infancy and supports Blu-Ray, 360 is established and features HD-DVD.
So stop insulting each other and trying to compare apples and oranges. Enjoy one, or all, of the consoles that are available.
But play nice!
